Oak Forest Recovery provided me a safe environment where I could grow mentally, physically and spiritually.
A schedule was to be kept and chores were assigned. I was afforded food, bed, gym access, transportation, and other luxuries.
Other luxuries or freedoms were to be earned. The rules were reasonable. There were about 15 sober guys in the house. Yet I could find sufficient privacy if needed. There was always a sense of community. the most important thing was that a spiritual awakening through a 12 step program was paramount.
I could not have had a better chance at sobriety anywhere else.

When I arrived at Oak Forest Recovery I gained a sense that I was no longer alone.
Being with a group of people who sole focus is recovery, helped me along my own journey. It was by no means easy, but with the help and the brotherhood I had around me at Oak Forest it was something I was able to accomplish. They have an amazing staff there that deeply cares for their clients.
The staff along with the friends I gained there help me to find a new direction and purpose in life. They provided me with everything I needed to succeed. Waking up early, going to meetings, and going to the gym everyday helped me to gain the life skills and confidence that I’ve never before experienced.
I am overwhelmed with a deep sense of gratitude for the experiences and relationships I’ve gained from being a part of Oak Forest. Thank you for everything you’ve done for me

During the two weeks before my arrival at Oak Forest I was literally at death’s door at a hospital in Southern California with the effects of acute alcohol poisoning.
I had multiple organs in the process of failing, along with the usual classic symptoms associated with that level of toxicity. When I was finally released from detox I was driven to Oak Forest to begin the next phase of my recovery. I was scared, frail and depressed.
Immediately after my arrival at the center I began to feel better. Although unused to a supervised environment and living with a houseful of guys, I resigned myself to accept whatever the program had to offer me, as opposed to resenting it. I cannot say enough about the acceptance, support, care and yes, brotherly love, that I experienced at the center. I immediately began attending twice daily meetings with the guys and was again overwhelmed at the sheer joy I felt and experienced among the people at AA meetings. I give a special thanks to R.J.–who manages the house–along with Marcos, Jerry and a few others who serve in a more administrative capacity than most of the general residents. As for those guys all I can do is offer a big communal hug.
At this time I am back at my home, a considerable distance away, and am active in my local AA fellowship. I fully intend upon my next visit to Southern California to visit the house, share my experiences and attend a meeting or two with this amazing, dedicated group of men.

Riley smiles now and he never has before. It comes from within. That transformation is life-altering.
It ripples through our family and everyone he encounters. Through Oak Forest Recovery and the powerful AA community he has found there, he is now able to stop seeking ways to numb himself from the emptiness but instead fill it with community and a higher power. Riley did not come to Oak Forest wanting to change, but somehow RJ, Jerry, Marcus, and the Oak Forest community set the stage for a shift to happen deeply within him that entirely altered his motivations and acceptance of responsibility.
I believe that he now sees a lifetime of possibilities before him that he could not see before. These changes have freed him to share his gifts with others, and allow the world now to see the amazing person that he is. Our entire family is healing as a result. My gratefulness to RJ, Jerry and Oak Forest comes from deep within my heart and is endless for helping our precious son to find his way.

When I moved in to Oak Forest i was in a state of incomprehensible demoralization.
I had lost everything that I every loved in my life.
My family wanted nothing to do with me, lost my job, I was in debt and I had no idea how to live life. Through a lot of self searching and the help of the amazing Oak Forest Recovery team I am now talking with my family again on their terms, I have an amazing job that I would never of found without this program and I am still working on paying off my debt, but I have a good plan for how I will accomplish that.
I feel like I have my life back again and this life is a life I never thought I would or could ever have.

Sober living has to be more then food and a safe place to sleep.

For years I struggled with alcoholism. I came to Oak Forest and from the very first moment I arrived I felt the structure, focus, experience, and compassion.
As a former athlete and successful businessman the structure and commitment to creating this environment is what connected me and allowed me to focus on myself and my sobriety first and foremost.

For eight years I have struggled with alcohol in and out of AA. Relapse after relapse growing worse every time, I eventually found my bottom.

Oak Forest Recovery showed me that there was a solution to my addiction that I never thought existed.
All my various attempts in recovery before OFR, and ultimate relapses, left me more demoralized and hopeless than the last one.
