Healing from addiction and mental health challenges doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens in relationship with family, with peers and a broader network that understands what recovery really means.
At Oak Forest Recovery, community isn’t just an add‑on to treatment. It’s at the heart of everything we do. We believe that people get better when they are surrounded by others who support, understand and walk alongside them. This page explains what our community looks like, who it’s for and why it matters.
The Oak Forest community is open to anyone impacted by addiction or mental health issues. This includes clients currently in our program, alumni who have completed treatment, family members and friends, and people in the wider community who are seeking support. You do not have to have gone through our program to attend our public events. We offer open access because we know that recovery is stronger when people feel connected rather than alone.
Our community is family‑centered. We see addiction as a disease that affects the whole family and we want loved ones to have a place to learn, share and heal. We host weekly family education sessions where parents and partners can learn about addiction, communication and boundaries.
These sessions are led by licensed therapists and are open to anyone, not just families of current clients. We also run family support groups that provide a safe space to discuss challenges, successes and fears. By including loved ones, we strengthen the entire support system around our clients.
Oak Forest Recovery hosts a range of recurring events designed to foster connection, education and support. Each event is open to clients, alumni, families and anyone in the wider community who is impacted by mental health or addiction issues.
These events reflect our belief that community is essential for healing. Whether you attend virtually or in person, you will find a supportive network ready to welcome you.
Recovery requires both compassion and accountability. Our community provides both. Peer support helps people feel understood and less alone. Accountability keeps people focused on their goals. During our events and groups, participants are encouraged to be honest about their struggles and successes. They receive encouragement from others and also learn to show up for their peers. This balance of support and accountability is a key reason why our community is effective.
We understand that not everyone can attend in person. For family members who live far away or have busy schedules, we offer virtual family education sessions and support groups. We also maintain a 24/7 group chat for families of current clients, as well as alumni chat channels. These digital connections ensure that people can find support whenever they need it.
Addiction can be isolating. It tells people that no one will understand them. Community breaks through that isolation. Being part of a supportive group can reduce feelings of shame and hopelessness. It can also increase motivation and resilience. People in recovery can learn from others’ experiences, share resources and celebrate milestones together. Family members can see that they are not alone in their worries and challenges. Community provides a sense of belonging, which is essential for long‑term healing.
Whether you are a client, a family member, a friend or a concerned community member, you are welcome at Oak Forest Recovery events. We invite you to attend a Sunday brunch, join a support group or come to a workshop. If you have questions about our community offerings or would like to learn more, please contact us. We believe that recovery is stronger when it is shared, and we look forward to welcoming you into our circle.
Thank you for reaching out. A member of our team will get back to you shortly.
